Creating jobs in Haiti and giving people an opportunity to start an enterprise is a practical way to help Haitians help themselves. Statistics show that for every 1 percent increase in entrepreneurship, there’s a 2 percent decrease in the poverty rate. When one Haitian has a job, he or she feeds an average of 10 people. The average family in Haiti is living on about $10 a month. With an unemployment rate as high as 90% in some parts of Haiti, it is easy to see how job creation can bring about more sustainable economic opportunities in order to help the country recover. So why aren't more organizations helping create jobs in Haiti? It's because that most of them are operating on a needs-based approach. This means that they provide services that meet the needs of the people, but the services don't build the capacity of Haitian people to do things for themselves.
At Beyond Me Initiative, we focus on building the capacity of people to become entrepreneurs and build a sustainable enterprise. The end goal is to bring more industries into their communities. You can help make our work possible by donating to help us give the tools and resources to these entrepreneurs. Having jobs and the ability to feed their families restores dignity among those who are suffering. They learn to utilize new skills and earn a livelihood that will allow every person to become part of the solution instead of being looked at as another mouth to feed. Help us increase our impact through your generous contributions.
